A connected pathway from skills to delivery.

This profile applies to adventure motorcycle skills development, preparation and load management, progressive riding techniques, emergency repair and recovery principles, and guided recreational or commercial off-road riding.

The Skills Guideline, Curriculum and shared Off-road Accreditation Requirements must be read together. They define competence, learning content and the requirements for approved delivery.

Competency pathway

Three progressive levels.

Learners progress only when they can demonstrate the knowledge and practical performance required at the relevant level.

Level 1

Introduction

Legal context, riding equipment, motorcycle components, packing, tyre pressure, basic posture and introductory obstacles.

Level 2

Basic

Vehicle configuration, inspections, moderate terrain, braking, weight distribution, environmental responsibility and recovery awareness.

Level 3

Advanced

Challenging terrain, advanced line choice, stopping distances, recovery safety, puncture repair and self-recovery methods.

Scope of practice

Where the profile applies.

  • Unsurfaced roads, trails and natural terrain, including gravel, sand, riverbeds, mud, snow and rock.
  • Single-day and multi-day learning or guided riding activities.
  • Training ratios selected for terrain, risk and learner ability; guided experiences generally limited to six clients per guide.
  • Competitive motorsport, riding beyond achieved competence and unroadworthy motorcycles are outside this profile.

  • Roadworthy, trail-ready motorcycles and suitable tyres.
  • Approved helmets, boots, gloves, eye protection and appropriate body protection.
  • A confirmed communications, emergency and evacuation plan.
  • Responsible riding that protects sensitive terrain and respects access rules.
